Further information about Gawad Kalinga
AIM community service in partnership with Gawad Kalinga held at the Multinational Village, Parañaque
Gawad Kalinga (GK) is a growing multi-sectoral alliance that strives to restore the dignity of the Filipino through community development projects. Its vision is to build a strong and slum free nation that other developing nations can follow. In order to achieve this goal GK creates communities because they believe that if you create one good community you will uplift the lives not only of the members of this community but also the other communities that surround it. Aside from empowering communities GK also wishes to encourage more Filipinos to volunteer to help the nation as well as to encourage partnerships among the different groups: government, business and civil society.
Aside from building stable and sustainable houses, the community is helped further by GK though the other programs GK implements in the communities they have created. GK provides value-based education for children through their Sibol and Siga Programs. They also address the health of the community through their Lusog Program. GK also helps the community develop livelihood skills through their Sikap Program. Lastly, GK through the neighborhood association that it establishes, Kapitbahayan, inculcates the values of stewardship, accountability, cooperation and community spirit in the members of the community.
