How Do Gov't and NGOs View Poverty?
AIM to
bare survey results of attitudes towards the Philippine poverty situation
RVR
Center
On
Wednesday, August 18, 2004, the Asian Institute of Management's Ramon V.
del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility will present in a forum
the results of a survey of government organizations and NGO officers'
perceptions and attitudes toward the Philippine poverty problem as reflected in
the specific localities of their anti-poverty programs.
The event will be held at
the SGV Hall of the AIM Conference Center from 9:00 am to 12 nn.
The report states:
"The poor continues to remain poor because managers of poverty alleviation
programs do not have a good and sound understanding of the true operative
causes and consequences of poverty. This weak and, at times, even incorrect
understanding makes for an equally weak and incorrect poverty alleviation
strategy."
The principal researcher
of the survey is AIM professor Dr. Ned Roberto. The forum is being presented by
AIM in cooperation with the Social Weather Stations and the Business and Social
Research Desk of the Office of the AIM Dean.
The panel of reactors
will include Hon. Corazon Juliano-Soliman, Secretary of Social Welfare and
Development; Ambassador Jesus Tambunting, chairman of Planters Development
Bank; and Ms Victoria Garchitorena, president of Ayala Foundation.
