The Center

The Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. AIM Center for Corporate Responsibility (RVR Center) is a research and program center within the Asian Institute of Management. Its main task is the management of corporate citizenship relative to the competitiveness of firms and its impact on society. The Center is engaged in case writing and research, program development and executive education and training. A lecture series and an annual conference on Corporate Responsibility are programmed every year. 

The Center also provides consultancy services in a range of Corporate Responsibility areas as an integral part of its mission. These services are available to corporations throughout Asia.

The Center is named after Ambassador Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr., founding trustee of the Asian Institute of Management and founder and Chairman of The PHINMA Group in the Philippines.

The Man

Ramon V. del Rosario

Ramon V. del Rosario is the founder and Chairman of The PHINMA Group and a founding trustee of the Asian Institute of Management. Recognized as one of the country's most respected industrialists, Mr. del Rosario co-founded PHINMA as a vehicle for Filipino entrepreneurship. Today, PHINMA is the Philippines' leading manufacturer of cement, steel, and industrial-grade paper, and is involved in oil exploration and independent power generation. PHINMA has active partnerships with leading international companies including Holderbank, Financiere Glaris, Ltd., FLS Industries, Sumitomo Corporation, Mitsui and Company, Kawasaki Steel, and the Siam Pulp and Paper Co. Ltd. 

Mr. del Rosario held key positions at IBM Philippines, the Philippine-American Life Insurance Company (of the AIG group), and the Far East Bank and Trust Company. He was co-founder and first National President of the Philippine Jaycees and became the first Asian World President of Jaycees International. His diplomatic career included postings as Philippine Ambassador to Canada, Germany, and Japan. 

Mr. del Rosario is a member of the Business Advisory Council of the International Advisory Council of the Asian Society. He is vice chairman of Caritas Manila, the social action arm of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila.

Under Mr. del Rosario's stewardship, The PHINMA Group has received numerous citations for its socio-economic development, environmental, livelihood, and community relations programs, including the inaugural Corporate Citizenship Excellence Award from the Philippine Business for Social Progress and the 1999 Grand Anvil Award of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines.

For his outstanding contributions and achievements, Mr. del Rosario is the recipient of numerous awards and citations, noteworthy of which are the Noble Knighthood of Pontifical Order of St. Gregory from His Holiness Pope John Paul II, the title of First Class of the Order of the Rising Sun from the government of Japan, and the Sikatuna Award from the Republic of the Philippines, the Management Man of the Year Award from the Management Association of the Philippines, and The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Award.

The Center was established by friends of Ambassador Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. As a long-time partner of the Asian Foundation, The Ford Foundation provided a major grant to set-up the fund endowment fund. Various programs of the Center are likewise supported by international funding agencies and foundations.

Professor Maya B. Herrera, is a full time faculty member of the Asian Institute of Management where she teaches finance, organization development, corporate valuation and enterprise-wide risk management. She is one of the authors of the book entitled, “Doing Good in Business Matters”, which provides the reader a framework in practicing corporate social responsibility. Maya writes the column, “Integrations”, for The Manila Standard Today. She is a Fellow and past president of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines and has served in various capacities in its Board of Governors. She is Managing Director of Solutions Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in health care, employee benefits and actuarial consulting. 

Faculty Profile

 

 

Professor Francisco L. Roman, DBA, is the Don Andres Soriano Professor of Business Management. He is currently with the W. SyCip Graduate School of Business, and is a Senior Fellow of the Ramon V. del Rosario Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility. Previously, he was the Associate Dean of the Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE) and the Executive Director of the Hills Governance Center (HGC). 

Prof. Roman completed his Doctorate in Business Administration at the Harvard Business School (1989), in International Business, a field that studies multi-national enterprises, with a sub-specialization in Agribusiness in developing countries. He is an alumnus of the Ateneo University, where he graduated with a BA in Economics (1966) and an MBA (1968). He holds an MA in Economics from the University of Hawaii, East West Center (1972). Prof. Roman has been associated with AIM since 1970.
